Cognitive

A cognitive or IQ assessment involves a series of psychological activities to help identify a child or adolescent ’s individual learning style, strengths and areas for improvement. These results combine with clinical observations, background information and parent and teacher reports to generate a comprehensive report covering a great deal of information about a child or adolescent cognitively, educationally to meet the learning needs, and behaviourally both at school and at home. An important component of the report is the recommendations for teachers, parents and other professionals that are used to meet the learning needs of school aged children.
Overall, a cognitive assessment can be used to:
- Gain a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the child or adolescent’s strengths and needs
- Identify if the child or adolescent would benefit from being extended academically
- Determine if a child is reaching their learning potential
- Assess and understand fluctuations in concentration and attention levels
- In collaboration with other appropriate assessments, diagnose specific learning problems.
