For GPs
Message from Directors Kate Swann and Kristina Mamrot:
We have built our business on the philosophy of providing a sound, quality service to our referring GPs as well as our patients. We do this by:
- Informing you in writing when your patient has attended their first session with us, then keeping you up-to-date with relevant progress information every six sessions or as required.
- If a patient presents to us first and wants to claim their sessions on Medicare and if we feel they qualify, we will refer them back to you with a letter outlining the reasons why we feel they could be considered for placement on a MHCP – at all stages we ensure that your records (and ours) are kept Medicare compliant. The patient is also told to book a double appointment with you.
- We work collaboratively with our referring GPs – if we have something we are concerned about, we will pick up the phone and discuss it with you.
- Most of our Psychologists are able to work with a number of patients presenting with Personality Disorders, including Borderline PD. We take these patients on with a careful management plan.
- Our Central Triage System ensures the patient is allocated the most suitable Psychologist at the most suitable time slot.
- GPs are welcome to bypass our Triage System by phoning Kristina direct to discuss emergency cases or special needs – many GPs we work closely with do this when appropriate and we have the ability to pick up those patients quickly if needed.
- Our Psychologists are able to handle a broad range of presenting issues, but if we are unable to manage a patient, we will contact you to discuss the situation and provide suitable referrals and options.
- If your staff fax through a patient’s MHCP, we are happy to call the patient direct to make the first appointment – this can be helpful with patients who are compliant in your rooms, but who you suspect will ‘waver’ once they depart. We manage these situations in a confidential, respectful manner, and of course, it is always the patient’s choice whether or not they book a session.
- Our rates are competitive – we charge exactly the average rate charged by Psychologists in Melbourne, but this does mean the patient pays a gap. We have found through experience that patients value the service more if they pay out of pocket, and are more likely to attend.
- We offer out of hours appointments: before 9am and after 5pm weekdays, and all day Saturday.
